Where we are in place and time
Week 1: PROVOCATION: Students will be named important explorers and work in groups to do a scavenger hunt around school using a map given by the teacher.
Week 2: Learn about the continents on the map and important points of each. Get into groups and research each of the 7 continents and present to the class their findings
Week 3: inquire about the variety of places they have lived throughout the world and what types of landforms are present.
Week 4: Summative Assessment choice of:
1. History Magazine Text (informational): Students will create a magazine that includes an article and a map of a realistic community. Students will include geographic elements, map symbols (key, compass rose, title), and a written explanation as to how/why people in that community chose to be there, as well as any warnings for possible natural disasters. .
2. Brochure (persuasive): Students will create a brochure to advertise a location, with a map including map key, compass rose, and title, as well as written reasons why people should live there and possible warnings of natural disasters.
3. Students could also create an island, naming its explorer and the importance of its discovery, mentioning their traits and motivations to explore. Using different materials, create a map of your new island including landforms and regions
